You forget the genetic breeding as well. There's a lot of multi-generational families with players in each generation. Papa might of been a bench-warmer for the Knicks(which is still 99% in playing ability) and Mama is a tall well built lady, but the Son could be the next Kobe.

This can be seen in the Ball lineage. Lavar Ball was like 96% in playing ball, which is excellent but when competing against 99%+ means that you will be called "Bad". Ball literally had kids with his wife because she was a good genetic pick. His son Lonzo is better than him.

I trained BJJ in the late 90s, and still love all the legends from that era, but when I watch competition today, there is just no comparison. Technique, fitness, speed: all of them are 10x greater now.
