There’s been some talk lately about US dependence on Taiwanese semiconductors or Chinese rare earth metals which could be interrupted if things go bad. An interesting question is to ask how many countries could fight a modern war in the face of total trade isolation.

if they'd kept Britain out they wouldnt have had the resource constraint to deal with, Chile would have been happy to sell if it didnt mean trying to slip past a British blockade and through a minefield.

I don’t believe the Schlieffen plan was developed wrt 1914 resource constraints (it predated the war significantly), it was based on the view that German would lose a 2 front war and so had to knock out one front asap (with France being the only option due to size of Russia)
