Young, inexperienced, poorly trained, poorly motivated, poorly led conscripts. They recentlyhad a revolution to get out of an european meat grinder war, and here they are again. It was them vs the guys that had just handily beaten everybody. 
You can thank (blame) FDR for the material advantage. FDR didn't provide the tanks, but he did the planes and trucks (troop transport/logistics).
And the food and fuel the troops used, and the trains that delivered it all.
Some of these numbers are a bit exaggerated. The Soviets never fully deployed their numerically superior tanks and artillery in any given battle. But even then the disparties were crazy
