One of the weird grand reoccurrences in European history was that the Baltic nations were the last (or close) to adopt agriculture and also the last to adopt Christianity, both Middle Eastern innovations. It's this strangle place, this dead zone.

They have learned not to assosiate with these (middle eastern & abrahamic) people. They bring average cuisine, long workdays, average literature and average ideas with them. These people are not unknown but unknown to many for a reason.
