There's a correlation of something like -0.5 between seafood consumption and national homicide rate. I'm not sure if any other one variable is so powerful a predictor.https://www.cabdirect.org/cabdirect/abstract/20013040655 …

There are a lot of questions people ask about race that have really obvious answers in the literature but which can't be stated by academics, at least directly. Questions like: what's with....the Japanese?https://twitter.com/crimkadid/status/1265305840162082816 …

Uriah @crimkadidGoing to try the answer the old question “Why are the Japanese so…..Japanese?” in the sense of patient, nonviolent, guileless. And I think the answer is related to another stereotype: their immaculate skin, the root cause in both cases being high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. pic.twitter.com/yQQ6NarbevShow this thread2 replies 0 retweets 21 likesShow this thread -

The real question is how to reconcile the non-violence now with imperial Japanese behavior in WW2

The same way Gandhi had to reconcile the behavior of the ultra polite Englishmen he met in London with those on the other side of the Suez Canal. Violence against foreigners in time of war is regarded differently everywhere.

Some of the only people that compete with the Japanese in omega-3 status are the Eskimo; they too are famous for having ultra-low homicide rates. In recent decades anthropologists have tried to dispute this, but their examples are all of violence toward foreigners.

Reminds me of a study I heard of about omega 3 supplementation reducing violence in prisons
