Jared Diamond is knowledgeable and once upon a time he was interesting too, so if you ever see give him a lecture you should listen respectfully. But the moment he starts going on about how Papuans are smarter than Europeans please ask him about his paper on testicles.pic.twitter.com/cNWPkAgatg

Yes, Jared Diamond used to be cool. In fact if it was known how cool he was he might not get to give well paid lectures anymore. His paper links ethnic differences in testes size to differences in twinning rates. This is the kind of figure you used to be able to publish in Naturepic.twitter.com/SgCwESVVpE

Diamond believes that because twinning rate and testes size are linked in animals they may also be in humans and a prediction the paper raises is that West Africans will have big balls as suggested from their high twinning rates:pic.twitter.com/YtBrfY8owF

Could it be true? Who knows, but be sure to read the whole thing and print out a copy for everybody to see the next time Diamond gives a lecture to a bunch of angry anthropology undergrads: https://sci-hub.se/https://www.nature.com/articles/320488a0 …

Diamond is smart but fundamentally dishonest.

At first I was laughing but now I’m fascinated. You had me at “the right nut is always larger” but the testes size/ ov rate connection seems super interesting.
