Is Wisconsin the most German US state per capita?
The Dakotas and Wisconsin are in about a three way tie at just under 40% German according to the Census. An economics paper tracked immigrant surnames and found the most German section in the country to be SE Wisconsin, near Milwaukee.pic.twitter.com/D6FkhyIeY8

Wisconsin has a bit less white people per capita than the Dakotas, though. I took 2019 data on self-reported ancestry for European groups, divided them so that they added up to 100% (due to multiple-reported ancestry) and WI came out on top, 46% vs 41% for SD and 39% for ND.

I should add that this number includes the Swiss, Austrians, Pennsylvania Dutch etc
