In the Saami languages there are hundreds of vocabulary items that are neither Indo-European nor Uralic and which represent the remnants of a relic population of hunters encountered by the Saami at the time of their expansion from Finland, sometime around the birth of Christ.

Note too that in this schematic there are no Finns in Finland in the early Iron Age: they seem to have been very recent arrivals: coming to dominate the bulk of the country only in the last millenium.
