Think it might just be the decline in milk consumption? Apparently that has gone down 40% since 1975. Would fit with your 'autistic milk drinkers' theory -- maybe autism is what happens when that phenotype doesn't get enough dairy

This could actually fit with the iron theory as well though, since milk inhibits the absorption of iron.
