The Alr*n**s law of Perversity. The more a virtue is signalled, such as open-mindedness, the less of that virtue the signaller possesses. E.g. it's normal for charitable organizations to actively hate charity. There's one that don't but you've never heard of them.
Richard Dawkins bitches an awful lot on Twitter about what most people would consider to be trivial cultural and linguistic differences between Brits and Americans. Enough of this and you realize that he doesn't really hate the religious, he just hates all foreigners.
