I hear this advice a lot, offered by and at intelligent people: "why can't we have it all?" Because society is big and full of dumb people. You think I'm offering as a societal set point, I'll give you another example.
It pisses me off to see things like Drag Queen Story Hour. This sort of thing didn't exist in the recent past, but on the other hand gays used to beat up a lot for no reason too. "Well, why can't we stand up to degeneracy AND be nice?". Because society is big and people are dumb.
A society of universally brave men would be great.....until you realize how many murders and arguments there'd be. A society of universally kind men would nice....but theyd all get pushed over. You can't have it all.
