The Soviet contribution was larger no matter how you measure it, but German deaths is not a perfect metric. As early as 1943, the majority of the Luftwaffe and all the Kriegsmarine were deployed against the West. Deaths were comparatively low, but costs of production very high.

It was the threat of America's entry that turned the tide. Even before Barbarossa, Hitler prioritized plane production (of no use in the E. theater) over tanks bc he knew US was coming in. Similar dynamic w elite Siberians covering japs- battle not required to incur costs
