The video of the Goshen mother moving her baby over the fence to escape the massacre is hard to watch without feeling hopeless. Does it have to be broadcast? Maybe some news editors have a good answer. But I wonder if it respects the memory of the young mother.

NEW: Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux says a shootout occurred this morning as search warrants were carried out. One person is undergoing surgery, but expected to survive. Prison cells and inmates were searched in connection to the Goshen killings. A motive is still unclear.

[Officer] Carrasco was shot several times after he showed up to a home where a resident reported a man holding a gun, writes . The alleged shooter was identified as Nathaniel Dixon, 23, of Selma.

California Gov. Newsom turns criticism back to local law enforcement after shooting death of Selma officer. Fresno County DA quickly blamed Newsom. Newsom: "She has prosecutorial discretion. Ask her what she did in terms of prosecuting that case," referring to shooter's past.

NEW: announced today a 30 percent initial water allocation for water contractors. The agency cited “extreme weather in late December and nine atmospheric rivers in early January” for the increase. In December, the agency planned to allocate 5 percent of requested water.

The Catholic Diocese of Fresno has announced it will officially open the largest parish church in North America in Visalia, Calif. on Feb. 2. St. Charles Borromeo is the "most expansive" project for the church in modern history. The church will have capacity for 3,200 people.
