I'm also really, heartbreakingly, sad that others coming after me still have to go through this, and for even longer. I was lucky enough to be able to pay for some of my treatment privately. Others can't.

I first went to the GP about being trans in 2009 when I was 21. I'm 35 now. Most of my adult life has been defined by jumping through arbitrary hoops, being failed by medical professionals, paying for the care that I needed.

I can't believe that after nearly 14 years I will finally be "done". This means I'll be able to move (not that I plan to!), not worry about being a specific BMI or jumping through hoops. The feeling of being in limbo will finally be gone and I can actually be free for the future.

I'm also reflecting on my journey so far. I don't regret that I'm trans or wish that I'm not, but life would have been so much easier if I wasn't.
