I've been on a "finish that old book" kick. I've got books on my shelves that still have bookmarks where I stopped years ago, and I've been finishing them. I'm starting to judge it a failed experiment... though I have freed those bookmarks.

one of these days you should just walk up to one of those books, flip it the bird, and yank the bookmark without so much as cracking the cover

True, though it sometimes takes me that long to get into a book, e.g., THE GOLDEN COMPASS and JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL, and I'm really glad I stuck with them.
