I guess your bottom half first basemen still sorta fit that profile, but there was a time when otherwise good teams would go with that sort of dude and everyone was like "yeah, they're great." Not meaning Buckner specifically here -- he won a batting title -- but he's a type.

Not even remotely true. Hernandez career WAR was 60 and he has at least a borderline Hall case. Buckner’s career WAR, as noted, was barely over 15.
