i’m pretty sure most websites would be 100%+ better if they didn’t have google tag manager on them

I want to try it out, I do send custom dimensions to GA. Is that supported?
-
You can still send standard metrics and events using: ma.trackEvent('Category', 'Action', 'Label', 'Value'); You won't have the GTM stuff - just tell the marketers that it's Google fault!

Using a third-party script for GA can affect the tracking? I am very interested in using it, but I’m afraid I may lose some data.

You shouldn't lose standard page tracking and custom events. Analytics mostly pings a URL with data. Try it for a month and compare to previous statistics.

Thanks for highlighting this! We've just swapped out GA/GTM for this script, dropped 70kb per page load plus the associated parsing. As a result, we've shaved off another 0.07 grams of carbon produced on every page load
