Don’t take any fees unless it’s a bursary from a professional organisation where I’ve been invited to speak. This way my conflict of interest always easy to say ‘none’

It's hugely uncommon except in the psychology field from what I am able to gather.

If you talk to scientists otger than psychologists nobody has even heard of this idea of fees for speaking.

Among science communicators specifically, it seems to be more common.

I would want to be affordable, even if I'd be famous. Why? Probably for altruisitic reasons. I think about the Canadian discoverers of insulin who sold their patent for just $1.00, saying it belongs to the world. I feel much the same way about science.

Followup: While I'm not famous-I do get asked to give seminars, talks. Today I agreed to speak for free to MA Partners for Youth. It's a good cause, its on a topic I've done before. Guess I'd rather it be me than someone else who isn't science based.
