Disappointed that @linuxfoundation reinvents @opencollect when it could easily join forces.https://twitter.com/linuxfoundation/status/1105603331463016449 …

The LF's model seems more targeted, and their pricing is better. There are more rules about which projects qualify, and the first 10M of basic processing fees are covered. Both seem like they'd make them inherently incompatible?

I'd understand if LF wants to scratch its own itch, but the feature set looks rather similar to Open Collective than it is different to it. I'd expect this from any company but not from the Linux Foundation. We are all basically neighbours

I agree with the sentiment here https://twitter.com/opencollect/status/1105844302540873728 … cc
@cra . But, the rules and narrower purpose seem different enough that they necessitate something else.
that's just my view after 5 minutes of poking around.Paul Burt 🍕 added,

I agree that collaboration and convergence is something everyone benefits from. But, at the same time, I don't think retroactively applying a more narrowly defined goal, and a different set of rules would go over well.

I love what OC does but CB does more than just funding, "summer of code as a service" etc and is built to deal with a lot of the issues we ran into, my worry about OC is that 1) VC funded 2) not fiscally patreon style sustainablehttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uNDoafJyI50o128tjV2HjJGrf8l4bGOorJdSL8qgPyk/edit#gid=0 …

These are valid points I don't have much information about, but are sensible. I hope
@opencollect can give us more context.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

That’s right, we are not profitable yet. Working on it. One more reason to work together to make this sustainable for everyone no? Majority of money we raised was with other entrepreneurs/angels. Only one VC with minority stake. See https://opencollective.com/faq/about

just like there are many open source libraries out there to choose based on needs, let devs choose what works for them... see http://oss.fund for a variety of ways to fund open source, you, patreon, bountysource, gitcoin, houdini + hope to see morehttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1w9hi4pOlKfUmjnq5FtETqIOef-h8e7XdodNA-5rgN8Y/edit#gid=0 …
