I thank the people of Sturt for allowing me to serve them in Federal Parliament since 1993. My 26 year political career also could not have been possible without the SA Liberal Party and my wonderful family to whom I owe so much. Full statement ➡️

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.

I was deeply honoured to represent the Government at the Villers-Bretonneux and Bullecourt Anzac Day Services as we remember the more than 100,000 Australian service personnel who have died, and the many more that have been injured, in our country’s service. Lest we forget.

The Australian Imperial Force suffered 10,000 casualties in the Battles of Bullecourt in April and May 1917. My Anzac Day program finished here with the Town Service followed by the Australian Service at the ‘Digger’ Memorial.

I spoke of Arthur Blackburn VC. He wrote to his children sending them happy returns for their birthdays and said he expected to be back with them for their next birthdays. He wasn’t. He was to eventually become a prisoner-of-war until the end of the war.

The Sir John Monash Centre at the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, which was inaugurated 12 months ago, tells Australia’s story of the Western Front & does it extremely well. Thanks to centre Director Caroline Bartlett for taking us through this impressive facility.
