the extent to which tech condescends to politicians... and now they face the politician they hate and he seems like a FAR more effective communicator than themhttps://twitter.com/EricNewcomer/status/1349908570545004550 …

@chesaboudin is telling them there has been a drop in crime and they're saying that is contradicted by their lived experiences!!! they're acting like a bunch of libs lolololol1 reply 1 retweet 32 likesShow this thread -

i actually think this is a reality of an echo chamber + crime where everyone always thinks crime is always going up even when it goes down when everyone you follow on twitter is constantly complaining about SF becoming detroit, it makes it seem more true

Just as every I-bank can generate a league table showing they're #1, so can every DA or critic cut crime stats to show what they want. For full year 2020, burglary is up 50% and vehicle theft up 35%. For pre-lockdown 2020 (1/1-3/15), robbery, assault & larceny are also up.pic.twitter.com/VgInyee9rA

On the latter (pre-lockdown) Boudin could claim that was only his first two months & since then things have been improved. Only time will tell. But burglary & vehicle theft are definitely two of the most common crimes that rightly affect people's perception.

The point is, if Boudin is claiming crime is down, w/out any further qualification, I think that's disingenuous.

I was originally skeptical of
@chesaboudin early on but willing to give him a chance.https://twitter.com/cpoetzscher/status/1266412521616900101 …Cameron Poetzscher added,
Cameron Poetzscher @cpoetzscherMany in SF are anti-Chesa b/c they think he's giving free rein to crims. I think he's well-intentioned & has many good ideas & we should give him a chance. He was duly elected & ultimately people will vote with their ballots (& feet) if his reforms don't improve life for all.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
But I think he is proving more of a detriment to the cause of crim justice reform, w/ both misguided decisions and a general unwillingness to accept responsibility for things rather than deflecting blame to others (SFPD, parole, etc).
