i was hired as a narrative designer at riot. you know what i've been doing the last few months? combat and systems design. because even most big AAA projects don't need a full-time ND 100% of the time. that is the just the ugly truth of this line of work.

personally, i'm OK with it-- I like wearing a lot of hats-- but this is why i tell aspiring narrative designers "learn other kinds of design." it's not to denigrate what NDs do, it's to equip them to survive during the times when narrative work is lean.

I've always felt like job titles, especially in design are counterproductive at best. Titles lead to tribalism and BS turf wars, you want to have an environment where ppl are free to stretch their legs and explore new skills and not get boxed in and fail comfortably.
