The strangest thing about Ni No Kuni 2 is that Roland, within 10 minutes of meeting the main characters, throws himself into a generational war between 2 species. He has no context - Evan's people could have just perpetrated a genocide against the mouse people!

He also spends about 5 seconds thinking about whether he cares to try getting home before deciding he's all-in on helping Evan in magical fantasy land! It kinda set the tone for me not worrying too much about the details and just embracing all the innocence/naivety.
Oh yeah totally. He just gives up the presidency of an entire nation with no thought. I was thinking that maybe he was corrupt or wildly unpopular and this was a convenient way out. But at it's core the tone is so preteen focused it's disarmingly adorable.
