Their behavior is justifiable legally and that the potential consequences were made clear to the contractor. If I owned those trade secrets I would take legal action against anyone that disclosed them.

The conversation wasn’t about their legal rights, just about it being unsurprising (when you treat your workers poorly), bad PR, and just generally shitty. There’s no way the financial math adds up, so it’s not exactly making the world a better place, ‘tis all.
