One cute thing about tech startups is how in the winter we're all wearing the same cozy branded hoodies on our little Zoom calls

As some will pretend Martin Luther King, Jr. was universally loved this weekend, this is a reminder of how he and the Civil Rights Movement were viewed at the time. It sounds very familiar decades later.

I never really understood the whole "building a plane while flying it" cliche until doing HR for a fast-growing startup 😅

95% of employees who have taken time off due to stress named another reason, such as an upset stomach or headache. That's why I believe in company-sanctioned mental health days. Break the stigma!

If you work remotely: Do you have any morning or afternoon/evening rituals to help you get in and out of the "work zone"? I'd love to hear them!

Today is our first 'Flex Friday' at . From June through August, the team has this day to do what they want (work, partially work or not work as they like). There's no expectation of availability on Fridays. Can't wait to see how this experiment goes!

A good gauge of company culture is how many "thank you" emojis have been uploaded to your Slack

In the aftermath of the Basecamp meltdown, I hope we don't assume all orgs & people who focus a lot on culture are full of it just because some are. Never idolize companies but I do think there's a way to care humbly, try hard, get some things wrong but also a lot right.

“If you're offered a seat on a rocket ship, don't ask what seat! Just get on.”
I think this is bad advice. Where is the rocket going? Is it well made? Are the people on it jerks?
Anyway, Hologram is IMO a very good rocket ship & crew and we are hiring

One benefit I love at is that we ask folks to take 2 "lowkey mandatory" mental health days off every month. It started w/ the pandemic but I'd love to keep it around forever. What are some other great mental health perks?

A real flaw of the human experience is that it's so hard to have true self-awareness, but so easy to have way too many peanut M&Ms.

A meditation-ish experiment I'm trying is listening to full albums and giving the music my total attention. What albums should I add to my list? (All genres and languages gratefully accepted!)
