im trying to put it into words. essentially, i think that this could be effective, though i feel an aversion to the fact that this kind of thing needs to be done at all in order to delay or discourage environmental degradation. it's obviously idealistic, but i can't help but...

wonder why we cannot have an economic system that encourages preservation without that being a burden. tragedy of the commons situations such as this aren't naturally accounted for under our current economic paradigm. i think paying ppl is a bandaid fix and ignores the real prob

also, paying them not to develop it means that brazil etc. have a fundamental ownership over it. i also dislike this, as its flourishing is necessary to everyone's survival. basically in this model someone has to pick up the tab, but nobody wants to put their hands up
