She asks detailed questions about experiences I'd had. She laughs. Her voice sounds like two voices speaking simultaneously. I'm calm, but I'm driving fast. I get the feeling I need to get to the street lights. At the speed I'm going, it'll be about 10 minutes.

I think back over what I'd read about spirits. It always fascinated me that people wrote about spirits as though they knew, rather than believed. There are common themes amongst the text books and accounts.

So, I figure, hell... I've got 10 minutes... let's test some things. I ask the spirit possessing my girlfriend to tell me it's name, and tell me what it wants. Some utterance I can't pronounce. I don't think can be pronounced. It explains it's come to take me.

I explain that I understand full well that if it could have, it would have. The fact it didn't means it can't. That I understand it's trying to generate the necessary fear and doubt in me so that it can, but it won't be able to, because of what I know. It falters.

I explain that I know the mortal veil prevents me from remembering that which came before. I tell it I understand it knows me, that it recognizes me. I ask who I am, that it'd try to pull this stunt? It's panicked now, but is trying not to show it.

It's like it's trying to talk itself up. I'm kind of amused. Feels like an underling bragging to a superior. I ask it my name. It is afraid now. It's fumbling it's words. Eventually says my name. "No, what is my name? The name I had before? The name you know me by."

I'm almost overwhelmed with a feeling of near recognition. Like something on the tip of my tongue that I know, but can't quite form into a word. I demand to know. "Who am I? Who was I before?" It's almost apologetic. It's back pedaling hard.

We're approching the first street lights now. I demand again that it say my name. It pleads with me, saying it can't. That I don't understand what will happen if it does. I brake, and pull up under the light. I lean across, and placing both hands on her head...

Her forehead is burning up. She's thrashing as much as she can against the seatbelt. I say "In the name of Jesus Christ, with the authority vested in me, I command you to leave this woman." She goes limp, her head goes ice cold under my hands in an instant.

She's confused and more than a little shaken. The last thing she remembered is opening the door to the car, and suddenly coming to under the street light, with me leaning across her.
