Identity is a self-imposed straitjacket

Yeah but if identity isn't actually real... then we can fuck around with it and have some fun with it. This is maybe an issue (or misunderstanding?) I have with buddhism: being a person can be fun. Once we've de-identified, identity is (quite literally) at our disposal.

Exactly. We don't have to blindly fall into roles. We can craft ourselves to attract the ones we want. Try new ones on. See what works & doesn't. Seems pretty boring to me to be the same person one's whole life. I'm gonna (((die & live) again) and again) and again...

On the money. Doing away with the straitjacket means we're free to be fluid. We've got a whole wardrobe to choose from, so to speak A byproduct of choosing this path (in my exp) is easier friendships! The more diverse you are, the more people you can relate to

Hm. I follow. Ties into the idea of a grand narrative, but makes it seem like we might be able to get there through individual relations alone Though I'd consider the idea of levels or loci of reliability. Needs to be a balance of micro and macro. I think we're missing macro

might that be the result? > people that become 'relatable selves'... > we would be arriving at macro version(s) of this? humanity relating better to itself would be pretty great. and then relating to nature, too... we seem to have disappeared up our own innertubes.

well i think everyone relates themselves on some level to the world around them. if they didnt everyone would be in a totally dissociative state. we relate to our family, our friends, our personal preferences, the physical space around us when we actively bring attention to it

yes. so those are some of the levels. i guess i was thinking larger levels. e.g. is humanity capable of relating as a whole? is a nation, even? not without plenty of distracted division within it, it seems. culture seems quite a big distraction from a larger relatability.
