Biggest impacts on my mental health - school - work I'm sure these apply to most people. And maybe family would come in 3rd place. Why do our institutions still seemingly not value human welfare? And how can we change this?

If everyone contributed more valuable & efficient labor into the system, prices for goods would generally be lower & we'd all have more purchasing power. This also translates into a greater financial ability to leave companies that don't prioritize well-being enough for oneself.
But if prices are lower profit margins are lower and people get paid less so an increase in purchasing power doesn't really happen right?

Demand increases so wages for people who sufficiently fulfill other's preferences still enjoy overall greater purchasing power. When everyone contributes more into the system, everyone can have more.
