I think improving workplaces and workers rights is a an important step to fostering nice and capable human beings. In the same vein that good education should nurture nice and capable kids

Full time employment provides a ready made framework for existence, which takes an awful lot of the mental work required out of living. For some of us, the trade-offs are just too costly though.
