I wonder if selflessness and compromise are the price of adulthood and the expense of leaving behind a life of creative expression. All the best artists are fiercely loyal to their vision and typically struggle with romantic relationships.

Until ≈4 years, the human brain can't model others well at all. Then it takes until ≈40 for brains to model others and the larger environment (society/biology/Newtonian-physics) at the same time. We spend the rest of our lives exploring self + other, society + in the universe.
