What does a consensual hierarchy mean, exactly? I guess you mean something more specific by "hierarchy", because consent doesn't really count for much in a hierarchy (e.g, I don't have to give my consent to be the leaf node of my family tree, or worse at chess than Gary Kasparov)
hm. i guess im defining heirarchy as some kind of ranking of authority. so its about power distribution / decision-making ability. id say a family tree & the like are just ranking on a different metric. does that make any sense?

The power and agency aspects are what happens when a hierarchy gets combined with some sort of game. The hierarchy is its own separate thing, and it can be in an invalid state (e.g Trump), or you can reject its premises entirely (e.g, Caste system)

Ok if it's both consensual and official. If it's official but not consensual, it's an open dictatorship. If it's consensual but not official, it's corrupt, which usually costs a 3rd party. Ranked authority is usually official. Power distribution is unofficial all too often.
