looking at people I know, some definitely start defining their days by when and with whom they're going to drink that evening. one of the few regular social outlets for adults I think a big part tho is just that it's so ubiquitous so not drinking at all is pretty notable

huh okay so when i get older i need to make sure i have space to hang out with peeps without the pretense of alcohol. my dad facillitates that unconsciously with social hobbies so i guess ill just follow his lead

Approx 15% of professionals become alcoholic according to some prospective studies. Somewhat heritable but this factor is complex.

I never imagined being that into alcohol but have found that it's easy to slip into having a few drinks every night. It's a slippery slope one has to watch out for IMO.

Wasn't my intention to cause offence. The trend I was pointing to was that of a lot of people particularly in the self improvement sphere going off alcohol, not alcoholism. I was genuinely curious about why

Alcohol is a weird one. I've got a genetic history of alcoholism (paternal). My dad is a recovering alcoholic, his dad is still quite fond of a pint - that's Irish for alcoholic btw - and his dad was a drinker until he died. At 20 I need to keep an eye on my intake..

Not that I drink often. However the whole 'addictive personality trait' is there and after experimenting with a variety of drugs I know how easy it is to fall into addiction Atm it's just nicotine through vaping and caffeine through sweet sweet coffee But still. Gotta be careful
