Yes. I have to think that, if that were the goal, equality of opportunity goes out the window. If you're willing to work for the common good, you get what you need. If you're working for yourself, you get the basics. Never thought about it in those terms before, though

Lately I have been thinking along the lines of how "even-ness" draws on people's generally subliminal worldview / cosmology / ideology, in other words, how they learn to explain to themselves and make sense of their experiences (and quantize / demarcate those experiences)
