how the hell do you have an objective media. like if you remove it from state funding it needs to survive by advertising/corporate funding and if you make it illegal for that kind of bias, the only other option is to have it state-funded will we ever win :')
i guess all thats left is social pressure to be accurate & informative & report on the things that matter. but we're glorified monkeys and dont really know what's best for us especially when there's information asymmetry between the publisher and the reader (and reality)
Look at ebay and darknet markets, user-based rating system of the product (news pieces) and the seller (author). I think thats the way to go. Elons Pravda project is the current hope.
Given that people will always make mistakes, the question isn’t what system prevents mistakes but which system helps identify and resolve them. In practice, that means having rival newspapers with different views, and which make different errors.
Things that might help:
Acknowledge that universally accepted “neutral reporting” isn’t really possible
Teach/inspire the public (and journalists) to evaluate arguments, check sources, “debias”
Praise journalists who share their sources/evidence / reasoning processes
