i guess all thats left is social pressure to be accurate & informative & report on the things that matter. but we're glorified monkeys and dont really know what's best for us especially when there's information asymmetry between the publisher and the reader (and reality)

There is no such thing as real objectivity. It's a goal, not a reality, as we all only have a limited amount of information to go on, and all have a natural desire to achieve unique goals that, hopefully, we're honoring (instead of repressing our ideals).

Yes. The public hires journalists as a utility to uncover truths that particular interests want hidden. This is a model where the incentives align.

What’s the theory here? Politicians are not self-interested? Government creates objectivity through paperwork? There are known “correct” ideas? And the challenge is mainly getting media to say them?
