The Earth doesn't have "natural life support systems". The opposite: it has death support systems. Unless we use the one thing we have - our ability to create knowledge FAST - the planet *will* starve, poison, burn, infect, crush, drown, shake & obliterate us...& all other life.

knowledge is of no value when paired with inaction and apathy. and our environment certainly does support our life. we are fed, temperatures are regulated, the air we breathe is filtered - all of this is at risk

We aren't fed. We must terraform the planet at great effort to grow the food needed for us all (one of the things that article complains about). The temperature is regulated *by our technology*. Most places are so cold you'll freeze to death in winter or die of thirst in summer.
