i think you got it. it's closely tied to fear. seeing the unknown as threat rather than a source of intrigue and opportunity.

Curiosity is blocked by fear and anxiety :/ In general avoidance emotions override approach emotions, and most people are choked up with avoidance emotions almost all the time.

I'm increasingly convinced that this is tied to anxiety/fear. Everyone is curious as a child. Perhaps we are crushing it out of some people as children.

It's a combination of genes and environment. Pretty much all human brains are curious, but each brain has different designs, with some being more novelty seeking, and others more risk averse. If we're lacking basic needs that also keeps the brain in risk averse mode.
