On the one hand, your access to quality education should not be limited by your economic circumstances On the other, kids shouldn't to spend 16 years of their life in school (+uni) studying something they have no particular interest in just to stay afloat.
True, but there is still a large cultural perception that everyone who doesn't take the apprenticeship route must if they want to make any sort of money. This is inspired by schools, family, and employers. At least this has been the case that I have seen in Australia :)

Assuming you meant “everyone who doesn’t take the apprenticeship route must *attend college*” - oh yes I agree that there’s an unbelievably entrenched cultural perception of that, absolutely. I’m just saying it’s not true. :)

Anecdotally, so many city dwellers in the US just forget about trade schools in conversations about this stuff. And in the UK they’re much worse.
