Most art is a noun. Your interaction with it is the verb. This is true for everything material. The material itself is what it is. You bring your unique history and material design to it, and the combination makes something new.

Also, I think selling "art" is in opposition to the purpose of art. Ideally, artists do their work for free, and give it away to whomever they feel wants it most. This is true for all work, not just art. And it's why we need to separate access to basic needs from work.

Materials (items/goods/machines), like brain, are yet another form in which knowledge is stored. Knowledge, conversely, is created like and as material. They are in fact one and the same. However, some forms of knowledge are conceived to be unstored, ethereal entities.

“Materialist” refers to a diverse array of ideas. Once you start clearly defining, this question won’t be interesting.

It depends on why you are buying a lot of art. Are u buying it because you love the pieces, have a connection with them, and also want to support creators? Or are you spending millions of dollars on well known artists for clout in higher circles? Once again, depends on intent

Art is subjective as well. The second you put a price tag on it though, in the moment of purchase, it becomes a commodity. I suppose it depends what the buyer than did with it after? Do they display it? Hide it away? Loan to venues for public display? ....

This reminds me of Alan Watts and his discussion of what materialism really is. He makes a compelling argument that the superficial West is not materialistic. We do not honor materials and treat them with reverence because our culture is based on consumption and disposal. Art too
