A tumor is a part of an organism that has mutated to play a much shorter game than the organism itself. Humanity seems to be a tumor on the biosphere. The industrial revolution is that happy moment when the host was switched to mostly delivering nutrients to the tumor.

The biosphere doesn’t have moral status. Humanity does. Humanity is literally the most important entity in the universe since we are the _only_ important entity in the universe.

Surely non-Universal Explainer yet conscious creatures matter more than unconscious objects?

If so, it is H. Sapiens alone who make this determination. Until such time we can communicate with other species.

We can't be so certain that we are where the process of evolution intends to go. I mean, were causing our own extinction at the moment. Life seems to have more of a harmonious balance without our intervention

As far as we know, evolution does not have intentions - it proceeds by conjecture and criticism, essentially. And I think it could be argued that we're always 'causing' our extinction - namely, every solution we create carries some risk, and begets new problems.

From my understanding evolution optimises for increasingly ordered complexity Hrm maybe we're just hitting a lot more of the barriers to growth than other species got a chance to reach

It's unclear whether evolution optimizes for order, or complexity, or anything else. Don't forget, complexity could only go in one direction following abiogenesis!

Been reading stuff on evolution now. Evidently it's not as clear what's going on there as I thought. Seriously wish highschools integrated a level of ambiguity in their teachings. Instead we get a low level understanding of everything and think humans have it all figured out

mmmm im unsure (had to give that one a google xD). i think my observation it's certainly less the case at university, as the lecturers seem to have more of an understanding of just how complex their respective field really is. in highschool you learn about all the scientific...

Like all theories, evolution is being perfected and refined. When I was younger, "natural selection" was the primary explanation... but as you're seeing, it's lacking. In recent years, "sexual selection" has filled in a lot of the gaps.

Sexual selection was also Darwin's idea. What he didn't know about natural selection is genes are the replicating entity.
