Morning musings: Motivation is a scarce resource. Why do some harbour more than others? Can motivation be cultivated, or is it innate? Further, can motivation be imposed externally, or does it come from within the individual?

They are deadly at finer level of detail than past worries: "Will it kill me before I raise lots of procreative children?" Now we care about solving global problems, which take more time and mental health. A stroke at 50, or just Omega-3 deficiency, can hinder memetic evolution.

I would reframe this as "modern life-threatening scenarios are made *MORE* threatening by acute anxiety rather than less". So it's less about amount of risk but about the response being maladaptive for the situation. I think something much more clear & precise is also possible.
