Increased taxes always feel like a penalty. From my experiences with raising kids, if you want to change a behavior, incentives work better than penalties. So maybe incentivize companies that develop recycling tech with tax breaks instead.
Fair alternative. But we do need to get money to incentivise from somewhere. And I think it should feel like a penalty if you're unsustainably exploiting the earth's resources

Yes, sustainability is paramount. I worry that attempts at regulation via taxation may harm companies that are at least moving towards being sustainable. If taxation is used, there needs to be mechanisms to separate those that are trying from those that aren’t.
