Morning musings: Motivation is a scarce resource. Why do some harbour more than others? Can motivation be cultivated, or is it innate? Further, can motivation be imposed externally, or does it come from within the individual?

> difference between negative and positive motivation? Have thought lots about this. Seems there is, both inherently to any feedback system and specifics to human psychology implementation. It's adaptive for fear to overpower desire: those who don't flee don't survive.

This makes sense when dealing with real acute danger, but for some time now* humans have been living in tense states of chronic fear. Due to the power differential
between fear & desire, this makes desire-based motivation hard to tap

Depending on type of motivation, motivation and productivity can be positively or negatively related. I think negative motivation is negatively related to productivity. We want to avoid negative feeling so we do JUST enough to get escape it. Positive emotion, you just keep doing.

I kinda rambled about this topic on my own. I think it boils down to the energetic value of different stimulus, control over self-narrative and voluntary content intake. Plus finding the right friends helps.https://twitter.com/Cantide1/status/1220728285476327425?s=19 …
