Carbon emissions are a cost that is not reflected in the price, therefore hidden from the market. Pricing these external costs (externalities) in allows the market to dynamically respond Without pricing it in, carbon emissions are essentially subsidised by the climate (not good)

Iirc Australia tried to introduce a carbon tax years ago and there was a huge smear campaign funded by a lot of big businesses So it failed and has been a taboo ever since Also would be interesting to see how we could factor in other externalities to

These types of things are delicate and I don't know much about this stuff. We need two heaped teaspoons of mixed market syrup. Tax isn't always the answer, sometimes regulation. But I don't have solutions, I just think there is an economic centre that is pragmatic/makes sense.

Possibly shitty, but also we live in a globalised world now that is dangerously delicate and interdependent. In order to make changes to truly secure our future, EVERYONE needs to be in on it. So rn with our petty arguments between different borders, we are at risk
