Knowledge-workers (someone whose job involves handling or using information) are often required to use different devices for their jobs. Immersion is necessary for deep work, and even people who value personal focus find it difficult to continue tasks for long periods of time.

When our phones are nearby on our desks, or in our hands—each time we take an action or open an app that isn't related to our task, we're susceptible to losing our train of thought.

So if someone does value personal focus, what kinds of experiences make it easier to achieve? How can we break the habit of opening notifications or apps (at times when our values don't align with the behaviour)?

We'd need to prioritize a couple things: Users control their attention. People are able to individually decide what's important enough to interrupt them. This involves new ways of evaluating incoming requests for attention. Without identifying importance, we view it all equally.
