They need not for their journey to aquire truth and knowledge because their method relies upon the use of agreed upon fundamental categories of concepts, such as that of change, cause etc. Philosophy is all about ascertaining the true nature of those underlying concepts.

they know about the physiological state of death. But they cannot tell you what that means to you and your life as a living individual. How should you respond to this? What attitude should you take? Science cannot answer this for you, and here lies the realm of existentialism.
