You basically just embraced the cultural logic of postmodernism.
I personally feel as if a cultural desire for the apocalypic could be rooted in a longing to let go of current society entirely. Instead immersing ourselves in a complete psychological flip relying solely on the Freudian concept of the id for survival for a release from "this".
