On domestication of the self:
Ageing into adulthood is largely a process of domestication.
Just as we domesticate dogs to fit into the environment of our households, so to do we alter our own behaviours to fit into society.
This involves a repression of our primal nature

restrict our true personalities to fit the professional environment. But this is just a construct. I’m not saying there’s no place for formalities and respect, but when we domesticate ourselves into this persona when we truly think it is undeserving, we promote inauthenticity

Fake smiles, uncomfortable handshakes. This and more is the common practise of devaluing yourself for the sake of some authority you don’t even respect as such. If we raise inauthentic kids, and promote inauthentic environments, we will continue the cycle of fakery
