Extra info: Earnest Becker describes the pursuit of a legacy as an immortality project. In a sense, by chasing impact we are able to deny (at least a part) of our mortality and continue to live on and influence others

He also believed that religion as a hero-making system was no longer convincing, and that science failed as an immortality project as it could not provide meaning to ones life As such, we are impoverished regarding illusions that are necessary for meaningful immortality projects
The higher the agreement between humans as to the nature of their projects, the lower the instances of conflict. And vice versa. Becker identifies the need for a new agreed upon illusion that can help to better the world.
